VALENTINE, James (1815-1879) & George Washington WILSON (1823-1893). (Photo album of Scotland. N.pl., n.d., c. 1880-1885). 48 sepia-tinted albumen photographs (189 x 236 mm) mounted on thick card stock on cloth tabs. 4º-obl. Bound in heavily gilt and blind tooled red mor. w. inside dentelles over wooden brds., e.g. (Edges of sides a bit chafed, lower upper joint partly split, corners a bit dam., but altog. in good condition).

Fine photographs of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Loch Achray, Loch Katrine, etc. Valentines (of Dundee) produced Scottish topographical views from the 1860s, and later became internationally famous as the producer of picture postcards. The majority of the photos with the initials of J.V. (some by G.W.W.) and with captions and stock numbers in the lower margin.
