TUCHOLSKY, K. Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles. Ein Bilderbuch. 1.-20. Tsd. Berlin, Neuer Deutscher Verlag, (1929). 231, (5) pp. Prof. illustr., partly also w. photomontages. 4°. Or. yellow cl. w. photomontage covers, printed w. coloured foil in black & red, by J. Heartfield. (Very small stain on front side, else in v.g. condition).

First edition. Arguably the most famous Tucholsky book, if only for its iconic cover. The cover design, selection, and montage of the photographs are by John Heartfield. Despite the German Publishers and Booksellers Association’s attempt to boycott the book, this work became one of Tucholsky’s greatest successes. Four years before Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, Tucholsky published this ‘political Baedeker’ on Germany, a ‘picture book’ on the state of the state and nation. - Blickfang p. 147; Herzfelde, p. 50-51 & 364.
