¶ With four indexes and a preface to the printer by Joh. Chapuis, who also contributed a poem on the eternal value of the work. Until 1530 all 'Codex Justiniani' editions consisted of the first nine books only. A rare edition. Not in Schweiger, not in Adams. The blindtooled leather binding has a crowned lily as device on both covers within compartments; it is of Spanish origin, and old printed Spanish leaves are visible inside the covers. Of the back cover probably an overlapping part with ties is missing: holes for loops on the front cover are still visible. We have here a Mudejar binding in an interesting state: the usual ones are leather over wood, and without flap. See Cockx-Indestege & Storm van Leeuwen in Quaerendo 17 (1987), 250.
