¶ First Italian-Dutch edition of this important work on the history of maritime and commercial law. It contains the most complete systematic survey of medieval maritime customs. First appeared in Catalan in 1494 in Barcelona. Later Italian editions incorporated maritime laws of Italian cities, and the Consolato became in force in the whole mediteranean area, and as supplementary law for Northern European countries. It has exercised influence on maritime legislation in various West European countries, among others on the French 'Ordonnances de la marine' and the 'Code de commerce'. - Kress, 2415; Goldsmiths, 4054.
