¶ Detailed descriptions of 9 short trips through Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland and the Netherlands undertaken by the Haverschmidt family between 1879 and 1894. Written in a very legible hand by Haverschmidt's son François (Frank) (1869-1928). The title-page mentions the name of Haverschmidt junior as the writer, but from the text the perspective is not always clear. Also: Frank was only 10 years of age during the first journey and can't possibly have had such clear and exact memories. For that reason it could well be that junior was relying on his father's notes. The remembrances are also interspersed with fragments of François Haverschmidt sr., e.g. on leaf 17. A table of contents precedes the first trip of 1879.

¶ With poems in various languages presented by family members and friends, also with contributions by Eelco Verwijs and by A. Thorbecke-Solger and her daughter. Gertje Woutera Verwijs was a younger sister of Eelco and later married Adolf van Slooten, cousin and good friend of François Haverschmidt. Eelco van Kleffens writes in his autobiography ('Belevenissen, dl.1') about Gertje Woutera: "In mijn prille jeugd bloeide in Dokkum een leesgezelschap […] welks veertiendaagse portefeuille met tijdschriften uit binnen- en buitenland in het gezin van mijn grootouders een gretige belangstelling vond. […]
