In the old city centre of Leiden, on the corner facing Saint Peter’s church, you can find our characteristic firm, comprising an auction house and a modern and antiquarian bookshop. On this same spot the famous 14th-century jurist and book collector Philips van Leyden once had a magnificent library, which was appropriately called the ‘Templum Salomonis’. When in 1894 Pieter Burgersdijk & George Niermans established their business here as an off-spring of the renowned publishing house E.J. Brill, they revived this name, which has adorned the façade since.

Our auction house organizes two auctions a year, in May and November. Each catalogue offers books on a wide range of subjects, varying from rare old printed editions, manuscripts and prints, to modern (scientific) literature.
For future auctions we are interested in acquiring whole libraries or single items of value. We are renowned for our expert knowledge of the book trade and can put your books, manuscripts or prints on an international market of private buyers, collectors, dealers and book collecting institutions.

Our bookstore specializes in Classical Antiquity and Philosophy, but it also offers a considerable antiquarian collection of Dutch and English literature, as well as a section of books related to the city of Leiden. Furthermore we effect certified book appraisals for auction, insurance, succession or other purposes. Finally we produce several publications, among which ‘Dicht op de Muur’ and ‘Newcomers in an old city. The American Pilgrims in Leiden, 1609-1620.’

With our expertise in the book trade we can offer made-to-measure service, no matter whether you would like to buy or sell books, or just would like to have an expert’s advice. Our firm participates in the Dutch Organisation of Antiquarian Booksellers (NVvA), the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (www.find-a-book.com), as well as the 'Federatie van Taxateurs, Makelaars, Veilinghouders in Roerende Zaken' (TMV).
